Unity, a game engine that’s designed to ease off some of the
game development hardships, lets you design a game in Unity and then port it to
any other platform (Android, iOS, Windows Phone and all gaming consoles). It
has recently shown its support for an entirely different platform; Microsoft’s
Hologram- inspired VR headset, HoloLens.
The users of Unity can design a game for any platform with
minimal changes to coding. Microsoft’s HoloLens is one insane, high definition
VR set that is capable of rendering hologram-style images into the ambience. It
was announced a quarter back in January but whenever we hear about its release
date, it always says ‘eventually’
Unity will provide support for all Microsoft’s HoloLens
features like 3D spatial mapping, gaze and voice/gesture recognition. HoloLens
support for Unity isn’t publicly available yet and there is no time-frame given
for when it might be.
HoloLens has a lot of potential for gaming. Unity’s
strategic technology Vice president, Steffen Toksvig says that it is expecting
to see the engine to be used in more than just gaming.
HoloLens, he says, will allow developers to reimagine
everything from social networks to remote health care. Our work will ensure a
seamless and efficient development experience that takes full advantage of the
unique features and capabilities of Microsoft HoloLens, Steffen Toksvig
